Keewaytinook Okimakanak Charity Initiatives was created in June 2009 to provide youth with recreation and education opportunities. Royal Bank of Canada has awarded KOCI with a Blue Water Community Grant of $5,000 to enable the partner First Nation to raise awareness of sources water conservaiton. The Chiefs of Keewaytinook Okimakanak have created a research institute (KORI) to document, conduct and promote research about issues relevant to First Nation communities, with particular emphasis about the various impacts of ICTs. KORI has developed relationships with a number of academic insitutions and community-driven organizations across Canada. The KO Research Institute's mandate is to change the way First Nation research is conducted within its sphere of influence.
