(07 05 03) NAN Legal Client Installed

NAN Legal Services Corporation delivers legal services to members of Nishnawbe Aski Nation including: legal education, restorative justice, mediation for child welfare and victim advocacy. The network upgrade will allow NALCS to continue to use video conferencing to meet with clients and workers throughout the North. A 40' telsopic pole has been replaced by a 4' mast under the new network structure. View the photos.

(07 04 25) NAN Finance Client Installed

NAN Finance operates administration and financial operations out of the NAN Head Office on Fort William First Nation. NAN Finance takes advantage of the Meet-Me Network by using VPN connections between its office and other NAN offices. Angela Crozier worked with K-Net team members to complete the installation. The OMNI Access Point at Fort William First Nation will facilitate other organizations in the community to be connected. See the photos.

(07 04 20) Wasaya Airways Client Connected

Wasaya Airways has been connected at the Fort William First Nation Head Office. They will use the service to conduct administrative meetings with their nothern partners as well as training workshops. Wasaya Airways is also interested in connecting their hangars throughout the north with video conferencing to improve communications.   

(07 01 26) Bell Demarc Completed

The Bell Demarc was completed January 22, 2007 (diagram). 12 strand fibre was pulled from the roof of the library into the Meet-Me Room to provide service to the radio on the roof. As the connections and terminations are being made, a number of additional clients are have been identified. Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, Wasaya Airways and Whitesand First Nation Education Office have shown interest in joining the network. The upgraded connection to Oshki-Pimache-O-Win was also completed.

(06 12 08) Meet-Me Room Equipment Installed

K-Net's Adi Linden visited Thunder Bay to meet with TBayTel and LU team members. Adi installed four CISCO switches and two routers in the Bahen building. LU has provided a great space for the Meet-Me equipment including a rack and cabinet. The Meet-Me switch will be a peer location where providers can interconnect. The other switches will distribute the VLANs created through the 100M POP at is to be terminated in the room in the next two weeks.

(06 11 22) Wasaya Airways Interested in Improving Continuity though V/C

Tom Morris, Coleen Slipperjack and Gord Earle of Wasaya visited the K-Net and KORI offices to view the video conferencing services. "Wasaya has scheduled meetings for administrative and training purposes and would like to take advantage of the technology to improve continuity between the bases," says CEO Tom Morris. Other applications include: troubleshooting between mechanics using a wireless camera to examine engine parts and video meetings with suppliers.

(06 11 08) Fibre Link Between LU and Hospital Completed

A link has been completed between LU and the Hospital.  John Barro of the Hospital's It department is anxious to connect the Molecular Medicine Research Centre (MMRC) which is a joint venture between LU, the hospital, and Sunnybrook & Women's Hospital. The purpose is to establish cancer and cardiac research among building a knowledge based economy in Northwestern Ontario. The meet-me location has opened the potential for information sharing for this high-tech industry of research.

(06 10 11) Meet-Me Room Preparations

The Meet-Me Room in the Bahen Building on the Lakehead University Campus is coming to completion. The fibre is pulled and the rack and power are being prepared. Carl and Brian visited Frank Christen to view the room.

(06 10 06) TBayTel Receives a Video Conference Unit

K-Net provided a V/C unit on loan so that TBayTel can become more connected as a new partner. Shawn Emry and others have been working to ensure a smooth and speedy transition from the Superior Wireless Network partner to TBayTel infrastructure.
