Deer Lake Fire July 2011
Residents of Deer Lake, Ont., being evacuated due to forest fire Just about 500 residents of the remote community of Deer Lake, Ontario are being evacuated because of an approaching forest fires.
Officials are working to evacuate Deer Lake residents as fires burning about 3.5 kilometers away sends smoke into the area.
The province is coordinating with federal and military officials to evacuate residents whose health is most at risk.
It is expected that the residents will be immediately airlifted by Canadian Forces aircraft to Greenstone.
Ministry of Natural Resources crews are fighting the fires with water bombers.
Other remote communities affected by the fires are: Sandy Lake, Cat Lake and North Spirit Lake.
There are no evacuations planned for residents in these communities at this time.
