09 12 02 Keewaytinook Okimakanak Visits Fort Severn First Nation

Donald Meekis, Mark Kakegamic and Franz Seibel are visiting Fort Severn First Nation to support community projects including; lands and resources, KIHS outreach and suicide prevention project. Michelle Shepard (OMNR) is also visiting to provide informaiton about the land use planning process as requested by the Chief. Kathleen Koostachin and Abigail Matthews are talking with elders, parents and students about making KIHS more accesible. Paul Burke and Lawrence Bluecoat, supported by councillor Tommy Miles are planning and discussing lands issues with community elders and trappers. KO staff visited the band office, school, clinic and youth centre to support local workers in their projects including an art contest, open house, sharing circle and school trip on the land. The open house was a great sucess with over 75 people including elders and leadership attending. Pizza, chicken and fruit was provided for visitors to get to know the KIHS classroom and learn more about the lands and resources project. The trip was completed with a school trip for a picnic and Christmas tree trek. Big thanks to all the local workers for their coordination and hard work on their community projects.
