09 08 27 Lands & Resources Planning in Poplar Hill

KORI's Mark Kakegamic and Franz Seibel visited Poplar Hill with Donald Meekis and workers from the partner First Nations for the Lands & Resources Planning Gathering August 24-26, 2009.  James Suggashie was a gracious host and Rita Wassaykeesic was very well organized, both made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We enjoyed using the business centre with video conferencing and motel. The meals made by the community members were delicious. We were challenged in a softball game by the youth and members of Tikinagen and enjoyed meeting the youth. The field was very wet and 3 members of our team fell into the mud and got soaked. We were losing when our hosts let us retire with some dignity in the 4th inning.

The training included an overview of Land Use Planning with MNR, options for mapping and databases. A sharing time for communties to discuss their projects with tips and challenges. Video conference training will continue to support the workers in combination with another in-person training event. We look forward to more gatherings in the partner First Nations.
