(04 28 09) - Grand Chief's Greetings via Video Cnference

On tuesday april 28, 2009, KORI's Brian Walmark hosted Community Based Research Training Workshops in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Grand Chief Stan Beardy was able to participate to do greetings and opening remarks for the workshops via video conference from the Travelodge Airlane in Thunder Bay. Mark Kakegamic and Stan Loone were on site at the Travelodge Airlane to set up the video conference unit and to provide techinical support for this event. Thank you to the Travelodge Airlane for their support.

04/17/09 CCEDNet/KORI Internship Program

The canadian community economic development network hosted their first video conference for a discussion on an internship program they funded for organizations in northwestern ontario.  Paro centre for woman's enterprise, Nordik Research institution and KORI were the recipients of the program.

09 03 20 Lands and Resources Planning

KORI and KO Governance are supporting the KO communities with a joint project to build capacity and raise issues regarding lands & resources and duty to consult. The team met with leadership from Poplar Hill and Fort Severn to hear what the issues are and offer ideas regarding training for community meetings and interviews and GIS mapping. The MAA, INAC and MNR are funding various projects which will contribute to this community led work. Over the next few months there will be workers hired, training delivered and open video conference gatherings on various topics.

09 03 03 KO Visits Poplar Hill First Nation

KO's Franz Seibel and Donald Meekis traveled to Poplar Hill to meet with Chief King, councillor Suggashie and EDO Rita. We traveled the winteroad with MNDM's Mark Vermette. The council has lots of good ideas for development, some of which was discussed. Donald introduced the Relationship Fund Project with Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs which will train local workers in mapping and planning for government discussions. Franz introduced the INAC Engagement Project which will train local workers who will facilitate local discussions on duty-to-consult processes with government.

 

(02/24/2009) Cost of Living App in Development, Video Conference and EcDev Paper, Online Business Startups

I am hard at work building a new application for collecting and reporting on the cost of living in the different northern communities.  We'll have a link ready soon to view and enter what you are paying for in your home community.

We are working on details to have another application that tracks carbon reduction and cost of travel adverted when using video conference technology through the knet bridge.

I am gathering information for getting your business online and maximizing profits through the internet, it will be part of the NADF workshop series March 27.
